Gregorio Gil mora allá en lo alto: en la localidad turolense de Puertomingalvo, cuyas vistas se abren a una suerte de vaguada y a un horizonte infinito. Es el lugar ideal para un cantero que se atreve con todo: con la piedra y con la madera, a la que talla y sabe darle un aspecto rutilante y policromado.
La piedra en las manos de Gregorio es un material dúctil: él hace esculturas, frisos en relieve o escudos heráldicos, pero también dinteles, columnas, capiteles, chimeneas, esas imponentes cruces de piedra que invitan a la oración y al reposo, o gárgolas. Gárgolas de cuentos, de monasterio o de catedral, con animales mitológicos que lanzan sus alaridos en mitad de la noche.
Gregorio llega a cualquier encargo: es un artesano indómito.
